Formerly known as National Championships, Grand Championships are high-level Organized Play tournaments that typically take place only once a year per nation or territory. The top 4 players from each Grand Championship receive an invitation to the following World Championship.
At a Grand Championship, players are awarded 20 Æmbershards for participation, along with 10 Æmbershards per win and an additional 150 for the winner. The winner also gets a unique "Grand Champion" KeyForge deck (with a different card back and "Grand Champion" in the name, but otherwise a regular procedurally generated KeyForge deck).
Grand Championships can be run in one of the following formats and variants: Archon Triad, Archon Survival, Sealed Adaptive, Sealed Triad.
Prizes
As the tier above Prime Championships, Grand Championships offer increased prizes, as well as invitations to the KeyForge World Championship for the Top 4 players. Moreover, if there are enough participating players, the winner receives free travel to the World Championship.
The following Æmbershards are awarded to players based on performance for all variants except Survival:
Round | Æmbershards | Power level |
---|---|---|
Participation | 20 | |
Per win in Swiss | 10 | |
Top 32 | 20 | |
Top 16 | 30 | |
Top 8 | 40 | 4 |
Top 4 | 50 | |
Finalist | 75 | 5 |
Winner | 150 | 6 |
For Archon 3-deck Survival, players receive 5 Æmbershards per win and an additional 5 Æmbershards per game played in Swiss. All other Æmbershard and Power Level amounts are the same.
No power levels are awarded in "true" Survival events, although players receive Æmbershards based on the number of games played and final ranking.
The 2019-2020 Grand Championships awarded top performing players with physical prizes unique to the event series. Each Grand Champion received a unique KeyForge Age of Ascension deck with the words "Grand Champion" in the name and a Sir Marrows playmat. Other top ranking players were awarded various prizes such as art sleeves and playmats with artwork from the card Bumblebird.
