All of the following rules are translated from the French rulebook. My translation is not flawless.
The Tide (Glossary)
At the start of each game, the tide is neutral (neither high nor low). When either player raises the tide, the tide is high for them and low for their opponent. If the tide is already high for a player, they cannot "raise the tide".
During the active player's turn, they may use the following ability: "Omni: Raise the tide. Gain 3 chains." This ability is given by the rules of the game, not by a card ability. Unlike most Omni: abilities, this ability does not require a player to exhaust the card. A player may use this ability as many times as they like during a turn.
Each Dark Tidings Archon deck contains a Tide reference card to help players know if the tide is high or low for them, and to remind them that they have access to the Omni: ability to raise the tide. This card is for reference only, and never counts as a card in play or under a player's control.
When a card ability says a player raises the tide, they must turn the Tide reference card so that the "High Tide" is facing them and the "Low Tide" is facing their opponent.
Card abilities that refer to the tide are indicated by this icon: .
New FAQ
Lightsmith Clariel
Q: If Lightsmith Clariel (DT080) uses its armor to prevent 2 damage and then, in the same turn, triggers its “Before Fight:” ability, will it be destroyed?
A: No, Lightsmith Clariel will not be destroyed. Lightsmith Clariel’s power will be equal to the total value of its armor (the printed value of its armor plus any effect that modifies its armor), even if that armor has already been used to prevent damage. Thus, after the trade, it will have 2 power.
Q: If an upgrade that reads “This creature gains 2 armor” is attached to Lightsmith Clariel (DT080) and I use its “Before Fight:” ability, will it have 4 power/5 armor or 2 power/7 armor?
A: 4 power/5 armor. Lightsmith Clariel’s power will be equal to its total armor value, which in this case is 4 (2 for the printed value + 2 for the buff).
The Chosen One
Q: My opponent has a copy of The Chosen One (DT332) with 8 damage on it. During my “Ready Cards” step, I have 4 exhausted creatures. Since 1 damage will destroy The Chosen One, can I ready 3 of my creatures?
A: No. All the damage dealt to The Chosen One is simultaneous in this case, so you do not ready any creatures, The Chosen One is dealt 4 damage, it is destroyed, and all excess damage is ignored.
Tide
Q: If I play Cross Porpoises (DT400) while the tide is already high, does it trigger Hydrocataloguer (DT053)?
A: You cannot raise the tide if it is already high for you, so “raise the tide” effects will not trigger if the tide is high.
Timing
Q: If I deal enough damage to destroy my opponent’s Venator Altum (DT183) while the tide is high for me, will it be exalted before it is destroyed so that I gain 1 aember?
A: No, Venator Altum is destroyed before being exalted, so you do not gain aember.
