Crucible Cube

Crucible Cube is an unofficial variant format for KeyForge, introduced at KeyForge Celebration 2025 by Panic. This variant features a drafting phase where players construct their decks using a curated selection of cards. Ideally operated with 4 players.

Setup

1. Place four decks, each consisting of 53 cards that share the same house ('House Decks'), within easy reach of all players.
2. Place the top 5 cards of each House Deck face-up in a shared pile ('Group Discard Pile'). If you execute this format using Token Creatures, choose 5 token-making cards from each house and place them in the Group Discard Pile instead.

How to Play

1. Each player is dealt 5 cards from each house, plus an additional card from the house they selected to be included in the draft (21 cards in hand).

2. Choose 3 cards to add to your deck, then pass the remaining cards to the player on your left.

3. When you receive 6 cards from the player on your right, STOP.

4. Begin the Lightning Round, where players take turns choosing 1 of the following options until they have no cards left in hand:

Discard a card to add a card to your deck from the Group Discard Pile. The card you choose must share a house with the discarded card.
Discard a card to add a card to your deck from the top of a House Deck. The House Deck you choose must share a house with the discarded card.
Discard a card to purge a card from the Group Discard Pile. The card you choose does not have to share a house with the discarded card
Discard all remaining cards in your hand and choose a Token Creature to assign to your deck.

Note: If the cards in your hand during the Lightning Round don't fulfill the requirements for completing a legal KeyForge deck, you may treat those cards as if they belong to any house while choosing options.
5. Repeat steps 1-4, starting with a 21 card hand and ending with a second Lightning Round. Reverse the direction you pass cards and take turns during the repeated steps.

6. Players start each game with 1 chain per card that is un-used in their constructed deck, whether from 13 or more cards in any house or any cards from a 4th house.
